Lighting Alterations

Important Safety Note

Always isolate the electrical supply before commencing and work on the electrical system.

MK Wiring Systems recognise that you may wish to change the light fittings within your home.  MK recommend that you maintain low energy fittings, it is a requirement of Part L of the Building Regulations to have a number of low energy light fittings within your home.

To Change a Light Fitting

Having isolated the supply:

  •  Remove the current light fitting from the ceiling, there is no need to disconnect the wiring.
  • Gently pull the cable, after approximately 30cm you will find a connector.
  • The connector can be disconnected by simply lifting the small locking  device between the two connectors.
  • The light fitting, with attached cable, can then be taken to a work bench.
  • Unscrew the wiring terminals and remove, carefully noting the terminal from which they came.  (Tip: a simple sketch may be helpful)
  • Re-attach the cable to the same terminals in the new fitting.
  • Plug the connector back into the cable (you will hear a click when the connectors are fully made)
  • Finally, fix the new light to the ceiling.
